Moving the theory into practice by doing what counts - the diving!

Vis, Croatia is not a compromise location.

It is one of the finest diving destinations in the Mediterranean, and it is almost entirely unknown outside Croatia.

The island was a closed military zone until 1989. As a result, the waters around it are in exceptional condition. Visibility regularly exceeds 30 metres. The marine life is diverse and largely undisturbed. And the wrecks — from ancient Roman amphorae to Second World War aircraft and ships — are among the most significant in the Adriatic.

The dive operation runs through Nautica Diving, based on the ground floor of Hotel Issa. You will not be carrying your kit far. The dive centre knows these sites better than anyone and will work with the Human Diver instructor team to select dive locations that match the team's qualifications and the morning's classroom focus.

The Plan

Monday to Thursday: up to two dives each afternoon, with a Human Diver instructor, as a team. The dives are boat dives. Nitrox for single cylinder and twinset diving is included. Air diluent and oxygen for CCR diving is included.

Friday: a free diving day. Use it however you choose — arrange additional dives with Nautica, explore the island, or decompress before the conference dinner and Dave Conlin's after-dinner presentation.

For those who have already completed an HFiD: Applied Skills class, an advanced class will be available. We will allocate the most useful training for you based on your goals, your experience, and type of diving.

Depth and Certification

The sites around Vis range from two metres to more than fifty. The diving is matched to your certification level. Recreational divers dive recreational profiles. Technical divers on open circuit have access to trimix sites. CCR divers are equally welcome.

If you are planning to dive technical or CCR, contact us before you book so we can confirm equipment logistics. Helium, high-fraction O2 deco mixes, and sorb are available at cost from the dive centre.

What Makes This Different

Most dive trips offer guided diving. This one offers coached diving. There is a difference. A guide takes you to a site safely. A coach is watching how you plan, how you brief, how you respond to task loading and time pressure, and how you debrief when you surface.

The afternoon dives are the classroom in a different medium. The instructor is there to facilitate learning, not to manage a tour

Practical

Improvement doesn't happen by listening to presentations, it happens by taking the knowledge and practice told by others and making that first step yourself. This conference is different.

The conference will deliver:

  • Presentations
  • HFiD: Applied Skills classes
  • Diving on the awesome wrecks and reefs around Vis, Croatia,

The goal is to take theory, apply it in class, and the embed it in your diving. Moving lessons from 'identified' to 'learned'.

Send me the early details. Keep me updated.

Depths...

The wrecks and reefs around Vis can be accessed at depths between 2m below the surface to 50+ metres. The images below show some of the scenes you will see when you dive here.

"There is almost no human action or decision that cannot be made to look flawed and less sensible in the misleading light of hindsight. It is essential that the critic should keep himself constantly aware of that fact.”

Underneath every simple, obvious story about 'human error', there is a deeper, more complex story about the organisation.

How...

...do I get access to the conference?

Tickets are now on sale. We have limited the number of people who can attend the live event to 300 which includes speakers and supporting staff. This is primarily so you have a great social experience as well as an awesome learning experience.

  • Live viewing only. This will be priced at $80 and will allow you access to all of the presentations. The way LexGo is set up is that you can move around the conference rooms as you want to. You can't be in two places at once though ;)
    Price $80.
  • Live viewing plus recordings. This gives you the same access as above, plus you get a copy of all of the presentations that will then be accessible after the event and you'll have access to these videos for 9 months after the conference.
    Price $150.
  • Recording-only option. We know that not everyone can make the conference live so we are now offering a recording-only option which also includes the proceedings.
    Price $120
  • VIP Tickets. This includes live and recorded access, along with access to digital training materials from the online aspects of the blended learning programme and new essentials class which will be released in July 2021. Most importantly, you will get a one-hour coaching session with me or one of The Human Diver instructors to talk about how to practically implement aspects of HF in your diving. There are only 30 of these tickets available.
    Price $250.
